If you spend any time on TikTok, you have probably seen the viral videos showing off a “Privacy Display” for the iPhone. These clips show a settings menu that looks exactly like Apple’s official software, allowing users to hide their screens from anyone peeking from the side. Thousands of people are commenting and asking how to get the update, but I have some bad news: it’s all a big hoax.
I’ll be the first to admit that the videos look incredibly real. Some creators claim this is part of a secret developer beta for iOS 26.4. However, after digging through the latest public beta myself, I can confirm that this tool simply does not exist. It is a very well-made digital concept, but you won’t find it in your settings no matter how many times you update your phone.
The real technology actually belongs to Samsung. Their new Galaxy S26 Ultra uses special hardware called “narrow” and “wide” pixels. When you turn on their privacy mode, the screen physically blocks light from shining toward the sides. Apple cannot just “add” this with a software update because current iPhones lack the physical screen parts to make it happen. You can’t fix a hardware problem with a software download.
The mastermind behind these videos is a TikTok user named @nxtcoreee3. They aren’t a leaker or an Apple employee, but a talented designer. They used a tool called Figma to build a prototype of what the interface might look like. It’s essentially a high-tech art project that people are passing off as real news to get millions of views.
There is one easy way to spot the fake if you see another video like this. Every single phone in these clips shows the exact same time: 3:19. The creator actually lists “3:19” in their social media bio as a personal watermark. If you see that specific time on a “leaked” feature, you can bet it’s a fake.
While it’s possible Apple could build something like this in the future, they would need to invent a brand-new display first. For now, don’t go hunting through your settings for a feature that isn’t there. If you really want to keep people from snooping on your texts, your best bet is still a cheap plastic privacy screen protector from the store.
