Sony Interactive Entertainment just revealed a major collaboration with Bad Robot Games to produce and publish the studio’s next big project. This deal brings a fresh multiplayer game to both PlayStation 5 and PC, marking a significant vote of confidence in the game studio founded by famous filmmaker J.J. Abrams.

The project sounds especially promising for fans of chaotic action games. It is a four-player cooperative shooter, with Mike Booth in charge. If that name sounds familiar, it should—Booth created Left 4 Dead, the legendary zombie survival game that defined the genre. He is now directing this new, unannounced title, aiming to capture that same magic of friends working together to survive against the odds.

Anna Sweet, the CEO of Bad Robot Games, explained that working with PlayStation gives them the backing they need to fully realize their “expansive vision” for this new universe. She noted that having Booth at the helm ensures the game will focus on creating unforgettable moments between friends, rather than just generic shooting mechanics.

On the Sony side, executives seem eager to see what Hollywood storytelling talent can do in the triple-A gaming space. Christian Svensson, a VP at Sony, praised the creative team Bad Robot has put together. He said their passion for trying new things fits perfectly with Sony’s goal of making games that stick with players long after they put down the controller.

This isn’t Bad Robot’s first step into gaming—they worked on the interactive streaming series Silent Hill Ascension last year—but a partnership with a hardware giant like Sony takes things to a new level. With the creator of Left 4 Dead leading the design and Sony handling publishing, gamers will likely watch this project closely.
