QuantWare is a leading developer and manufacturer of superconducting quantum processing units (QPUs) based in Delft, Netherlands [HardwareAnalytic]

Quantware, a company focused on quantum technology, has raised $176 million to build the VIO-4K, which they aim to be the fastest and largest quantum processor ever. Intel is one of the investors backing Quantware and its ambitious KiloFab project.

Quantware also plans to construct KiloFab, which will be the biggest dedicated, open-architecture quantum factory. The company expects strong customer demand and aims to boost its production capacity by 20 times.

In their announcement, Quantware revealed new investors, including Intel Capital, In-Q-Tel, and ETF Partners. These new backers join existing supporters such as FORWARD.one, Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, Innovation Quarter Capital, Ground State Ventures, and Graduate Ventures.

Founded by researchers from QuTech, Quantware has grown into a leading provider of commercially available quantum processing units (QPUs). The company focuses on producing hardware on an industrial scale, primarily within Europe. Quantware uses its own VIO architecture to build scalable and energy-efficient quantum computing designs and systems.

The new VIO-4K processor is set to be a game-changer, offering up to 10,000 qubits. This is 100 times more than what current top-tier systems can deliver. Beyond just being the fastest, the VIO-4K will also be the most power-efficient quantum processor to date, achieving more computing power per Watt than other quantum computing processors.

A key advantage of the VIO-4K is its open platform. This design allows it to scale using qubit chiplets and designs from third-party solutions. Quantware’s comprehensive ecosystem includes its own QPUs, foundry services, and chiplet packaging, all part of what the company calls its scalable VIO architecture ecosystem.

Currently, Quantware has shipped to more than 50 customers across 20 countries, making it the world’s largest commercial QPU supplier by volume. With the VIO-4K, the company anticipates unlocking even greater customer demand. The first VIO-4K 10,000 Qubit processors are expected by 2028, which should further accelerate the adoption of quantum computing.
