Moving into a new studio apartment presented a challenge: finding a television that wouldn’t overwhelm the limited space. The solution, surprisingly, arrived in the form of the Lumi Max portable projector from Lumi Labs. This wasn’t your average college dorm projector; the Lumi Max boasts impressive features and a sleek, compact design that exceeded my expectations. Its vertical orientation makes it perfect for small shelves, and its lightweight (just over 4 pounds) frame makes it easily portable, a feature particularly appealing given the founders’ camping background. A convenient carrying case is included for added portability.

The Lumi Max’s standout feature is its seamless integration with Google TV. This provides instant access to a vast library of streaming content, encompassing over 10,000 apps, 700,000 movies and TV shows, and more than 800 free live TV channels. Setup was incredibly straightforward, requiring only a pre-existing Google account. The included remote enhances the user experience, making navigation intuitive and easy.

Beyond the Google TV integration, the projector offers intelligent features like autofocus and obstacle avoidance. The projector cleverly identifies objects in its projection path, such as furniture or wall art, and adjusts the image accordingly. This proved invaluable in my sparsely decorated apartment. The impressive projection size ranges from 40 to 120 inches, coupled with 1080p Full HD resolution and 4K UHD compatibility, delivers a truly cinematic viewing experience.

Audio quality is another area where the Lumi Max shines. Equipped with dual 5W speakers and Dolby Audio support, the sound is surprisingly robust. For an even richer audio experience, external speakers can be easily connected. At $400, the Lumi Max offers exceptional value, providing a feature-rich alternative to traditional televisions, particularly with the added convenience of portability and smart functionality. Lumi Labs also offers optional accessories, such as adjustable stands and projector screens.
