Lenovo is getting ready to shake up the laptop market with its latest release. The company just opened pre-orders for the Yoga Air 14 Ultra Aura in China. This new machine is a big deal because it uses Intel’s brand-new “Panther Lake” chips, which are officially called the Core Ultra Series 3. While tech enthusiasts have heard about these chips for months, this is one of the first times we are seeing them inside a real product that people can actually buy.
The most interesting part of this laptop is the specific processor hidden inside. Lenovo chose to use the Core Ultra X9 378H. Most people expected the company to use the flagship 388H chip, but the 378H is a bit of a mystery. It has remained invisible in the market until now, making Lenovo the first manufacturer to bring it to customers. This chip is a beast, featuring 16 cores and 16 threads. It is almost identical to the top-tier 388H, but Intel turned down the boost clock by exactly 100 MHz.
Under the hood, the 378H uses a “4+8+4” core setup. This means the chip has four big power cores, eight efficiency cores, and four low-power cores designed to save battery life during simple tasks. It also includes an integrated graphics engine with 12 “Xe3” cores. This setup provides enough power for heavy photo editing or light gaming without needing a separate, heavy graphics card. Because it provides so much power, Lenovo is marketing this as a premium device for professionals who need speed in a small package.
The Yoga Air 14 Ultra Aura itself is built to be very portable. It features a 14-inch display and a very thin chassis. Lenovo wants this to be a “carry everywhere” computer for people who work on the go. Even though it is small, they did not skimp on the memory or storage. The current listings show that the laptop comes with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB solid-state drive. This is a significant amount of memory for a compact 14-inch laptop, which suggests the machine is meant for serious workloads.
If you visit the Chinese retail site JD.com right now, you might see a shocking price tag. The laptop is currently listed for 99,999 Yuan, which converts to about $14,722. You should not worry about that number, though. This is just a placeholder price that online retailers use before they are officially allowed to reveal the real cost. Even the most powerful gaming laptops with an NVIDIA RTX 5090 graphics card do not cost that much money. We expect the real price to be revealed very soon, and it will be much more reasonable.
Lenovo is not just offering one single model of this laptop. You can choose from several different Panther Lake chips depending on your budget and how much power you need. If you do not need the top-of-the-line X9, you can pick a mid-range Core Ultra X7 358H or even an entry-level Core Ultra 5 325. Interestingly, the Core Ultra 5 325 is an 8-core chip that does not have any efficiency cores at all. There is even a special FIFA limited edition model for football fans, though the company has not explained exactly what makes that version special yet.
The pre-order phase has already started, which means the laptops should begin shipping to customers shortly. Intel and Lenovo are betting that people want these high-powered Series 3 chips inside a lightweight frame that does not weigh them down. With 32 GB of RAM and the new Xe3 graphics architecture, this laptop looks like a strong competitor for anyone looking for a high-end Windows machine. We will have to wait for the official price reveal to see if it is a good value, but the hardware specs alone are very promising.
