AMD’s upcoming Ryzen AI 5 435G Desktop APU has been revealed through a leak, showing performance levels similar to the existing Ryzen 8000G APUs. These new Ryzen AI 400 Desktop APUs are expected to launch soon.
These new chips will feature up to 8 “Zen 5” CPU cores, up to 8 “RDNA 3.5” GPU cores, and a powerful 50 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks. While they won’t have the higher specifications of the “Strix/Gorgon” series, which can go up to 12 “Zen 5” CPU cores and 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, they do bring a more modern processor and graphics architecture compared to the older Ryzen 8000G family.
The latest leak gives us a peek at the entry-level AMD Ryzen AI 5 435G. This chip comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. It has a base clock speed of 2 GHz and can boost up to 4.5 GHz. The processor includes 14 MB of total cache, and its graphics part is a Radeon 840M with only 4 “RDNA 3.5” compute units. Importantly, it keeps the strong 50 AI TOPS NPU and uses a standard 65W power design, which can be adjusted down to 35W.
For its performance, the Ryzen AI 5 435G was tested on a B850M motherboard from a Chinese company named Jginyue. The test system also used 32 GB of DDR5 memory, though the exact speed was not confirmed. It seems the chip was running at lower-than-expected clock speeds, with Geekbench reporting a peak of 4094 MHz, which is notably less than its official 4.5 GHz boost clock.
In the benchmark, the chip scored 2620 points in the single-core test and 10,594 points in the multi-core tests. We can compare this to the Ryzen 5 8600G, which achieved 2493 points in single-core and 10,857 points in multi-core tests. The main difference is that the 8600G runs at much higher clock speeds despite using older “Zen 4” cores. This suggests that the inconsistent, lower clock speeds of the 435G in the leak might be the reason for its similar, rather than superior, performance.
We expect the final performance of the Ryzen AI 5 435G to be better than the Ryzen 5 8600G. It should come close to the Ryzen 5 9600 CPU, which is a standard 6-core “Zen 5” processor. Initially, these AMD Ryzen AI 400 Desktop APUs will be sold through computer manufacturers (OEMs). However, there’s a good chance that these chips will also become available for those who want to build their own PCs.
