Microsoft’s GitHub is launching a new “mission control” for software developers called Agent HQ, a single platform designed to manage the various AI coding assistants flooding the market.
Artificial intelligence “agents” are tools that can complete tasks autonomously and have become incredibly popular among programmers. But with so many different agents from so many different companies, it’s getting chaotic for developers to keep track of them all. GitHub’s COO, Kyle Daigle, said the company wants to “bring a little bit of order to the chaos of innovation.”
With Agent HQ, developers will have a central command center where they can assign tasks to multiple AI agents, monitor their progress, and even step in to make corrections in real time if an agent gets off track.
This isn’t just a GitHub-only platform. The company is bringing in agents from all the big players in the AI world, including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Elon Musk’s xAI.
“This is an era of abundance for AI, and we just want to make sure that that abundance doesn’t turn to chaos,” Daigle said. “We can allow you to have a great experience using all of these tools via a very open GitHub platform.”
The new feature will begin rolling out to GitHub Copilot subscribers over the coming months, giving developers a powerful new way to manage their growing team of AI helpers.
